Wardrobe | Spring Cleaning

I finally started the re-invention of my wardrobe the last few nights (and changed my font!). If you've not new to this blog, you'll know about my plan of creating the perfect capsule wardrobe, if not, look here. Anyway! If your like me, with a wardrobe crammed with items you don't like or want, face every morning with a stone cold bitch face muttering "i have nothing to wear..." or just want a new look, the path of the capsule wardrobe is the one for you! After many days (and nights) questioning my sanity, I have created a list of of my steps to a beautiful, organised wardrobe.

1. The easiest part - culling your wardrobe, e.g selecting your items.
2. Working out your style - defining and re-inventing
3. Wardrobe essentials
4. The hard one - sorting, selling and saving
5. Last minute touches

Saturday night I began the process with culling. Which basically means trying on EVERYTHING in your wardrobe (yes, thats it, everything) and creating my favourite thing, a list. Whilst doing this you need to think about different things you look for in an item. Does this fit me well? Do I ever wear this? Does this make me look like obese dwarf? Scrutinise all your items. Keep in mind to do this to your accessorises, underwear, night wear and even bags as well. I''ve got hundreds of weird old bags left over from my 'emo' phase, or hand me downs from people that are broken, never used or just plain ugly. Now, whats next? Sort your discarded pile into boxes or bags with the following labels: Selling, aka through eBay, to you friends, through your blog. These are the items that are worth some money, and are in good condition. Charity shops, this is easy, the items that are too worn out or damaged, or just not worth the money. Apart from these two, there are lots of other alternatives. For example, how about saving a few for DIY practice or just to save to give to younger siblings or such?

So what did I come up with? After de-clutter number one, I now have a compact, colour co-ordinated rail of clothes. Seems like a good 2 hours work to me. I'd love to hear of your wardrobe encounters over the last few months. Email me at studmuffinthepanda@hotmail.com, formspring, or leave a comment. Hello to my new followers as well! Panda xo

  4. love how you have your room! I adore big white spaces!

and great idea sorting out your wardrobe, I think I should maybe do the same cause I'm the typical person that wakes up every morning and has no idea what to wear unless I have a new item in my closet...quite sad. Oh, And I also love an open closet, mine is like that too!

  5. the way you've called it 'culling your wardrobe' truly made me laugh, not only as it sounds so drastic/masochistic but also because i need to cull my wardrobe and remove strange emily the strange bags and/or dresses from when i was 13 that i know i will probably never wear again. you've given a lot of good advice and as this wardrobe clearout idea is something on my list for the summer, i'll take your tips in advance :) xx

  9. That looks and sounds totally awesome!!

I can't wait to shift to my own place where I can have a huge room for a dressing room and I can color coordinate my clothes and sort them by categories. :)

  25. Congrats on your newly organized closet! Looks great! I had to laugh out loud though when you said 'color coordinated' because it looks like you tend to favor (ever so slightly) white and black. Love the idea of editing though, definitely am going to have to do a little editing of my own closet this summer. And thanks too for your comment on my blog, I totally agree that the jacket would brighten up the simplest of outfits.

  27. heads up - that picture was originally by vanillascented.freshnet.se she has an amazing blog and there were loads more piccies of her wardrobe.
i'm constantly trying to sort out my wardrobe but my style wont stop evolving so my wardrobe is never done! i remember someone saying once that in order to get the perfect wardrobe she would allow herself to buy designer "investment" pieces with money she'd make from selling 5 or so less lovely pieces. that has always appealed to me.

  28. Oh god this sounds all too familiar. Literally as I write this I'm surrounded by old musty smelling items after getting distracted from eBay-ing. I have the obligatory embarassing emo phase bags too... Skeletons in my closet - in more than the metaphorical sense.
Your blog is so lovely! Hope your exams are going well!

  29. really need to clean out my wardrobe as well - this just reminds me how long i've put it off! definitely will be "culling" my clothes soon. every other time i've cleaned out my wardrobe i hardly end up getting rid of anything because i try to convince myself that i will regret it and will wear it someday - i never do. love, love, love that room and i am totally obsessed with open wardrobes, especially with white walls as a blank canvas like that. am a new follower, would love it if you could follow me back. kisses, georgia xo
